La película "Hugo", de Martin Scorsese, fue nominada en 11 categorías de los Premios Oscar; el film mudo "The Artist", en diez; mientras el mexicano Demián Bichir y un film del español Fernando Trueba fueron postulados a mejor actor y mejor cinta animada.
